Zambia Safari & Rwanda Gorilla Trek with Mark Brazil
August 23 – September 2, 2017

Overview

We are very excited to be partnering with our close friends, Mark & Mayumi Brazil as they lead our brand new itinerary – Zambia & Rwanda. We have been working closely with our partners in both countries developing this expedition. Combining the contemplative beauty of the wide open savannahs of Zambia with the deep forests of the Virunga Mountains of Rwanda, so rich in biodiversity, makes this truly an expedition like no other. On this trip we will visit three of Africa’s greatest national parks: South Luangwa National Park, Lower Zambezi National Park and Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park). This expedition combines by design to very different natural history experiences, each featuring opportunities to encounter some of the most iconic wildlife species of Africa.

After earning his PhD in animal behavior from Stirling University he has had careers in television (he has been involved in making wildlife documentaries with various television companies, but especially BBC, TVNZ and NHK) and teaching – he was professor of biodiversity and conservation for nine years at Rakuno Gakuen University in Hokkaido. Now he divides his time between travels in search of experiences with wildlife and writing about the natural world. Although best known for his knowledge of and publications about eastern Asia, especially Japan, Mark has travelled extensively in South America and Africa. His first adventure in Africa had him hitch-hiking around Kenya as a young post-graduate student, since when he has been fortunate to make many journeys to the continent. His travels in search of African wildlife have taken him to Algeria, Botswana, Gambia, Mali, Morocco, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia. He is very excited to be heading to Rwanda and Zambia. Mark has been leading wildlife-focused tours for more than thirty years. Mark and his wife Mayumi also lead Expedition Easy’s Kamuy Mintara tour focusing on Hokkaido wildlife and Ainu culture.
